He-Tin-Kis Park Trailhead: (intermedidate trailhead). From the junction of Highway #4 and the Tofino/Uclulet Road drive south (towards Uclulet) for 9.5km.
Note: If you are hiking the Wild Pacific/He-Kin-Tis trails this trailhead is approximately 200m by road from the trailhead for the Wild Pacific Trail. (A $0 parking fee is charged.)
Facilities available at the trailhead include:
| Dayhike | 2 boot (easy). | 2.5 hours one way. | Suitable all year. |
Phase 1 of the trail (mostly accessible to motorized wheelchairs) is 2.7km long starting at the junction of Peninsula and Coast Guard Roads. From the end of the trail you can walk the boardwalk of He-Tin-Kis Park to the parking lot in the park (the board walk is not wheelchair accessible). The time estimate for the hike includes this section. When entering the boardwalk section take the left fork for the best views of the right fork for the most direct route to the trailhead.
The trail includes Amphitrite Point, a great storm watching vantage point (if hiking the trail from the He-Kin-Tis park then it is important to note that Amphitrite Point is not the end of the trail, continue up past the point where the trail continues for approximately 1km more to the parking lot).
To hike the entire trail it is necessary to walk on the roads in Uculet for a distance of approximately 1.5km.
Plans are to extend the trail in additional phases to eventually reach north to Halfmoon Bay in Pacific Rim National Park a total distance of approximately 15km. As of writing (June 2002) the trail has been extended to the half way point. We eagerly await completion of the remainder of this trail.
