Description

The trailhead is about 30 metres up the road on the left hand side.

The slopes of Mt Prevost have become a frequent area for mountain bikers to use for recreation. There are a number of routes and trails on the mountain which, combined with the overgrowth in the initial section and it has become difficult to follow the original route listed below.

Original route:

Follow the trail for about two minutes until it hits an old road (to the left the road is gated where it runs into private property). Turn right and follow the road keeping to the left at the next fork (next two (?) forks). About 5 to 7 minutes from the vehicles, there is a trail to the left through some bush. This short trail (about 4 minutes) goes down into a small gully where it crosses a small creek. It comes out on another road - turn right. (Make sure you can find this trail again).

Go ahead and turn left at the next fork - this goes to the top of the clearcut area. When this road ends go left - following the treeline. This turns into a well defined trail where the clearcut ends. Follow this trail for 45 minutes.

The trail comes out onto an old road. Turn right onto this road and follow for about 8 minutes until it runs into another road. Go left on this road for about 4 minutes. On the right is a well marked trail that goes up a steep section for about 15 minutes and takes you to the top (or the small saddle between the two peaks).

Alternate route:

Follow the trail as described from the trailhead but stay on the main trail not taking any turnoffs until you come to a trail crossing the main trail. Take this trail until you come to flagging and markers for trail number 7. Follow this trail up to a road walk down the road to a T junction (there will be an immense boulder on your right), turn right and head down the road for a couple of minutes. On your left you will see a trail leading up. Follow this trail which leads to the parking lot for people driving up the road. If you plan to return via the same route, make sure you note the location of this trail for your return. This is a much steeper ascent that the original route.
