Description
This route combines two trails, the Ridge and Old Gultch plus a section not on either trail. From the parkinig area head along the common access trail to the outhouse approximately 5 minutes from the start. Turn left and take the Ridge trail to a junction at the ridge. Turn left to a short, deadend hike to a viewpoint looking south across Plumper Bay. Return via the same trail and continue along to the official viewpoint. After pausing here continue along the trail to the junction with the Old Gultch trail. Instead of taking this trail continue along the ridge to the Fisheries and Oceans Canada radar installation. You will come out on a road shortly before the installation. Walkalong the road to the station, skirting the fence on the right to get to the helipad where you will be afforred excellent views to the north and west.Return via the same trail to the junction with the Old Gulch trail, taking this trail down. At the junction with the road turn right. After a few hundred meters there is a 50 meter side trail to a very large Arbutus tree. This is well worth taking although you have to watch for the sign as it is positioned for hikers travelling the opposite direction. Returning to the main trail it is a short distance back to the initial junction and then to the trailhead.
