Lightning Lakes Day Use Area Trailhead: (250 km from Saanich Hall, ferry required). Take BC#17 to Swartz Bay and catch the ferry to Tswassen, continue towards Vancouver turning onto BC#10. Follow this until you come to #1. Head to Hope where you take BC#3 to Manning Park. Just past the lodge turn right and drive to the Lightning Lakes Day Use Area where there is ample parking.

Description

The trail begins across the dam at the near end of Lightning Lake. There is a loop option by taking a different trail down to intersect with the Windy Joe trail. To shorten the hike return by the same trail (round trip distance using this option is about 22km).

Features

This trail features forests (Larch), meadows, mountains, views and Larch tree display in late September.

Comments

The Larches are in color in early autumn.

The section of the trail leading to Windy Joe was damaged in a forest fire in the summer of 1997.
