Spectacle Lake Trailhead: (29 km from Saanich Hall). Take highway #1 west from Victoria. Continue .8 km past the first Shawnigan Lake cut-off and turn left (just before the summit of the Malahat) . Follow this road to a parking area (at the first junction go left, then look for a gravel road on your right, approximately 1 km after the first junction). This road leads to the Spectacle Lake parking area.

Description

This lakeside and wooded trail leads to a fine viewpoint overlooking Mill Bay, Shawnigan Lake and Old Baldy Mountain. Access is via a spur trail that leads north from the northwest end the Spectacle Lake Loop Trail. This trail splits again about 2 km up on a ridge, go left and take the first (?) right heading along the west shore of Oliphant Lake. Turn left to reach the viewpoint access and then right on the "Hatchet Jack" spur (sign posted).
