Fred Trudell discovered the following article about the Giant Hogweed quite interesting:
http://www.agf.gov.bc.ca/cropprot/gianthogweed.htm
He thinks that many hikers are not aware of how this plant can cause severe skin reactions and so we should be alert as to its potential for causing great discomfort and pain.

Editorial comment:

The Coastal Invasive Plant Committee has deemed Giant Hogweed as a species that should be eradicated from coastal BC. This plant can cause severe burns, scarring and temporary or permanent blindness. If you find Giant Hogweed please report by calling 250-857-CIPC (within Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands) or 1-888-WEEDSBC elsewhere in BC.

DO NOT attempt to remove Giant Hogweed yourself, this is a job for the professionals.
