Description

This is a route comprising sections of three trails: Iceline, Little Yoho Valley and The Whaleback/Twin Falls. The portion of the trail from Takakkaw Falls towards Laughing Falls starts out as a concrete, double wide path before switching to a dirt single wide path (about 10 minutes into the trail).

This is a fabulous trail along the edge of a glacier with outstanding views. There is no shelter along the glacier.

Options for backpacking this trail include:
a. Staying at the Stanley Mitchell Hut run by the Alpine Club of Canada. This is approximately 11km from the start of the trail.
b. Staying in the Little Yoho campground near the Stanley Mitchell Hut.

A second night can be spent at either the Twin Falls or Laughing Falls campsites (before or after hiking The Whaleback).

Features

This trail features animals (Brown squirrel, Hoary marmot, Mountain goat, Pika), birds (White tailed ptarmigan), flowers (Cinquefoil, Columbine, Golden aster, Heartleaf arnica, Purple aster and Valerian), forests (Spruce), fruits (Wild strawberry), glacial views, mountains, rivers, views and waterfalls.

Hazards

The Iceline trail can be difficult to follow, almost impossible if there is snow on the trail or if the route is shrouded in fog.
