Canvasback Road, Salt Spring Island Trailhead: Drive north from Victoria on highway 17 to the Swartz Bay ferry terminal and catch the ferry to Fulford Harbour, Salt Spring Island. Take the Fulford/Ganges road north and turn right on Broadwell Road (nearing Vesuvius, 20.6km from the ferry terminal) and follow this to Canvasback road (22.25km - next road after Cormorant). Turn right into parking area at 22.75km, just beyond a funch of mail boxes on the right).

Description

Trail is steep at the beginning and at the end but relatively level in the middle. Trail is obvious and well marked. There are many branch trails, stay on the main trail. There is one branch on the trail which is a bit unclear, stay right.

The route eventually comes out on Sunset Road, can walk back via the road or hike back on the trail. There are several "trailheads" in the south section, ensure you stay on the main trail heading back. If you come out at a different trailhead make your way along the roads to Broadwell and follow it to the trailhead.

This trail features forests, views and There is an excellent viewpoint about 5 minutes from the south end of the trail.

Hazards

There are a number of intersecting trails that can be very confusing, make sure to either note the route you came or follow the trail marked with red markers nailed to the trees.
